My love letter to our fleeting girlhood.
Amayi, the name is taken from the Telugu word అమ్మాయి (Am’māyi), which translates directly to girl but is lovingly used in my language to say dear girl. I want this magazine to fascinate the inner child in you, our dear readers. Everything that I have personally curated in the magazine is something I know little girls would be in awe of. I tapped into younger Harini’s perspective of what the peak of fashion, interiors, and beauty is, my fantasies and desires of what I would want if I had three magic wishes. And I hope this issue caters to your dreams as much as it did mine.
A moment I will never forget that took place during the creation of this issue is when we were shooting the editorial ‘City of Nihilists.’ We were in a public location, and these two adorable little girls came up to the model, doe-eyed and entranced by the dress she was in. They fascinatingly asked her if she was a princess and asked if they could take photos of her as well, jumping and giggling with joy. My heart was so full, and I was content that my message and intent for the magazine were coming to life and translating very clearly to my target audience!
Creating Amayi was one of the best experiences of my life. Through the photoshoots, I got to meet so many wonderful female creatives who I can now call friends. There was so much positive energy that went into the creation of this, and I would love to keep working with immensely talented women.
I hope that while you go through this, you can feel the love, the joy, and the sheer hard work that went into this issue. Thank you so much for reading Issue 01 ‘Girlhood bites back.’
